Last Comic Standing Spotlight: Season 8 Finalist, Rocky LaPorte
by Jeff Dwoskin on June 21, 2014 |
Who makes you laugh?
A. Comics working
today that make me laugh are Greg Hahn,
Paul D’Angelo,
Rodman on LCS is funny and has a great style, also Kathleen Madigan
and Wendy Liebman. |
|
Excerpt from
Newport (RI) Daily News article on February 11, 2014 regarding
2014 Newport Winter Festival appearance
Promoter Joe Rocco said D’Angelo always works hard to keep the
audience entertained, no matter the venue. “Just over the past six
months, I have seen him perform for as few as 100 people at a
fundraiser at the Waterman Grille in Providence and in front of more
than 1,000 people at a private gala at the Waldorf Astoria Grand
Ballroom in New York City,” Rocco said. “He not only had
both audiences rolling in the aisles, but worked just as hard for
his Providence appearance as he did in the New York City show.”
"D’Angelo has put on an amazing show every time he has seen him
perform," Rocco said. “The only difference between Paul D’Angelo and
well-known talented comedians who fill 3,000-seat theaters like
Louis CK, Bill Maher and Bill Burr ... is that they have received
much more television and/or movie exposure,” Rocco said. “Paul is as
funny, and arguably funnier, than just about all of the most famous
standup comedians in the country.” |
|
Weekly News - 6-23-2006
“If you have never seen D’Angelo perform, you have
never seen the best comic
in New England and one of the best in the country. His quickness, wide range
of subjects and incredible delivery are nothing short of genius.” |

one of the two most frequently requested comedy tapes that I have played
since I’ve been working at the station, along with Tim Allen.” |

Paul,
I just wanted to let you know what a pleasure
it was to be in seat C1 at the Larcom Theater last night…your
performance was absolutely brilliant, a seamless series of
incredibly funny stories with a delivery the likes of which I have
not seen on a stage in a long, long time.
It was my pleasure to
stand up and honor you along with everyone else in the
audience….cannot remember being in a crowd of people where not one
person hesitated in getting up on their feet to show their love for
you and your performance.
I know they said they taped your show…will we
be able to catch it at some point. Will it be broadcast somewhere so
that we can tape it?
My husband and I were there along with friends
of ours…and you sir were the topic of conversation at my Easter
dinner here at my house this afternoon. I was telling all my
relatives about how funny you were.
Thanks so much for making us laugh our asses
off…you are a riot.

Dear Paul,
Our group was highly satisfied with your
performance at our Annual Meeting on June 27, 2007.
I would recommend you without hesitation to anyone interested in booking
you.
As a meeting planner, my sole interest is in
keeping our attendees happy, and giving them a memorable meeting experience.
You made our event the most memorable we’ve ever had! Our members were
laughing so hard they could hardly breathe! You tailored your act
brilliantly to our audience, and I could tell that you continually adjusted
your performance to your audience’s reaction. That’s truly the sign of a
consummate professional. And as further evidence of your success, a number
of people contacted me afterwards on how to book you for their own events.
I wish you continued success and I hope to work
with you in the future.
Best regards,

Dear Paul,
"The funniest comedian ever"
"Just great!"
"Fabulous!"
"Tailored to our profession"
"When is he performing again in this area?"
"He made the whole event!"
The comments above were just a few of the actual quotes made about your
presentation at Southboro Medical groups thirtieth anniversary celebration. Please
know that if laughter is the best medicine, you were just what the doctors ordered!
The entertainment committee has never been so pleased with our selection as we have been
with this years choice.
One of our employees

Dear Paul,
On behalf of the
staff of Catholic Charities, I would like to sincerely thank you for your wonderful
presentation in honor of National Social Worker Month.
You were extremely
professional, funny and warm. Everyone in attendance commented on your performance for
days afterwards. They were most impressed with how you were able to keep the humor
"clean" and not offend any group, while addressing a wide array of social issues
that everyone could relate to.
If you ever need any
references, I would highly recommend you to any organization seeking to hire an
entertainer.
Thank you again.

New England Association of
Insurance Fraud Investigators, Inc.
January 23, 2006
RE: December Christmas Party
Dear Paul:
On behalf of the elected officers, board of directors and general membership
of the New England Association of Insurance Fraud Investigators, we would
like to take this opportunity to thank you for entertaining us at our
December Association Christmas Party.
Of course as luck may have it the fun and laughter was anticipated but the
foot of snow was not. Yes, every other snow storm this winter has proven to
be a bust except for the day on which we planned our Christmas extravaganza.
Nonetheless we were able to conjure up 50 – 60 attendees and had a great
time thanks to you.
I have had nothing but positive feedback from a number of the attendees.
Below I have outlined some of their comments because, me writing them down
just would not have the same impact:
“I have not laughed that hard in a long time, I forgot how good it felt.”
“Kevin, we have got to get this guy at our Spring Seminar in Hyannis.”
“In the many years that I have been attending the NEAIFI Christmas Party,
this was the best one ever, even with the foot of snow. Paul D’Angelo was a
roar, hats off to the Christmas Party Committee.”
“Kevin great idea for getting a comedian for the
Christmas Party and kudos on finding Paul D’Angelo.”
Paul thanks again for the laughs. I will be contacting you about scheduling
a date in June
for our Spring Fraud Seminar in Hyannis.
Best Wishes, be safe and keep laughing.
Very Truly Yours,
Kevin Richard

Hi Paul,
Again, another great show.
Your comedy is definitely my favorite of all the comics we’ve had. I
enjoy the intelligence and thought behind it.
Just wondering what you’d
think about doing another show at the opera house sometime in the
spring as part of the Claremont Opera House season. If so please
advise cost, available dates, etc.
I’d like to make sure that the opening person
is like yourself, in that they use their intelligence rather than
constant f-bombs or vulgarity. Your comedic observations are funny
and edgy enough to keep everyone’s attention, sometimes going up to
that line but seldom, if ever, crossing it.
Thanks again for the
laughter, the world’s best medicine.

Hi Paul,
Thanks again for the generous donation of your
time and talent at our 6th Annual Friends Fighting Cancer event held
at the Windham Country Club, Friday September 9, 2011. We’ve had a
lot of very successful events in our six years but the consensus is
this one was the best overall! The post-event feedback we received
from the attendees was great and the fact you were on the event’s
agenda enhanced attendance, and thus the funds raised. For the sixth
straight year we raised more than the previous year.
Your performance was a
wonderful climax for the day, evidenced by the fact that no one left
even though the sun had come out for the first time in a week.
• Here’s a quote
from an email I received: “Paul D. was a Riot ! I don't know how he
went on for so long and kept us all in stitches!”
• Even the cashier out in
the pro shop said to me, “Who was that comedian? He was great!”
We know you receive
numerous requests to perform at charitable events; we very much
appreciate you coming up to Windham, NH and supporting some
Wakefield people and these two wonderful causes we support, The Dana
Farber Jimmy Fund and the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. Thanks as
well for the attention you paid to Sgt. Ian Lejeune who was there
representing the IMSFF.

Hi Paul,
Thank you so much for the laughs last night!!!
You are just brilliant in your humor!
I wondered after leaving the show if you ever realized what a wonderful gift
you bestow to all that are in your audience. The gift of laughter, to make
our mood light and happy, to laugh out loud for so long, to hear you make
fun of the craziness around us, things that can make us annoyed and you
pointing them out and making fun of them is just pure talent. You
let people escape from the stresses of life, to make the audience feel like
we are all one group, coming together to share some laughter (except for the
obnoxiously drunk couple. Boy did you do a good job on them). Just like
how you brilliantly describe the kid with 1 shoe, food on his face, but
happy as can be. Paul, you make us grownups feel like the 1 shoe boy! And
the visual of you imitating him is just too funny, with your arms waving
wildly. I'm LOL right now just picturing it!
Thanks again for the fun time. Please add me onto your email list.

Dear Paul,
Now that the ‘Hope for Mike’ fundraiser is
behind us, there is much that we would like to express to you. First of all,
we would like to thank you for your incredible generosity in offering, at
virtually the last minute, to do a set at no charge, at our fundraising
event. You showed all of us how genuine and caring you are and we are
extremely grateful.
Your set was awesome and Mike and all of his
family and friends enjoyed your humor immensely. I had never caught your act
before and am now a devout fan. Many of my friends and co-workers that
attended have commented that we should get together and go to one of your
upcoming shows. I can't wait! Your bit that started out trying one of those
video games and ending up with a flat top, camouflaged refrigerator, General
Motors, Colonel Sanders, et al...was HYSTERICAL!!!
And for my 80-year old Mom and other oldsters
at the event, thanks for your f-bomb free humor. A smart comedian doesn't
need it, and you are definitely a smart comedian. (Not that I, personally,
don't like a well-placed "f-bomb" once in a while....). You gained a whole
lot of fans that night.
You helped make our event an enormous success
and you made a difference in the life of a beautiful human being who has
been very, very sick. I see from your calendar and from talking to Dave
Knight that you do lots of work for charities...God Bless You!
Very Sincerely Yours,

This is just an example of how well this format
works for us!!!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to perform at my husband, John's
birthday party. Everyone LOVED your performance and are now great fans of
yours as well.
You are not only a great comedian but also a great guy. If we can be of any
help in writing a review or letter of recommendation, please let us know.
Thanks again. Arleen Cascio. |

Hi Paul,
I'd like to chat with you about the possibility of you coming back to the
Claremont Opera House in Claremont, NH.
I've raved about you to everyone.
It seems that we have found a niche here in comedy and I know that many
people, including myself, were quite taken with your type of comedy. I
respect comedy that doesn't resort to vulgarity. I admire that you see the
humor in every day situations. Life and people are funny!
One of the city employees here went on line to see where he could find you
after but he didn't want to go to Meadowbrook. He told me that he knew that
wasn't all of your material and Jim told me that you are constantly writing
new material. Another lady told me that she laughed so hard her one tissue
she had was a wet ball by the time the show ended.
It's a gift to be able to make people laugh, to make them feel great as
those feel good endorphins are released.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Many Thanks,Louanne Lewit

Hi Paul,
I was at Executive Court Friday night in Londonderry and thought you were
the best comedian I have seen in my whole 40 something years. No lie!!! My
face was hurting from laughing so hard.
I have been talking about you to people since I left you on Friday. I
thought Suck World was a HOOT!! The whole skit was fantastic but Suck World
was extremely clever. Great job Paul.

Just wondering if you will be doing any shows at Dick Doherty's Beantown
Escape in Worcester, MA at the Crown Plaza. My friends and I agree that no
other comedian can match you. We saw you in Lowell a couple years ago, and
since then every time we see another comedian we always say "He was good,
but he's no Paul D'Angelo!!!" Now that we have a new club here in Worcester,
we'd love to see you.
Happy New Year! Hope to see you soon.

Dear Paul,
I really enjoyed your comedy at the Gartner Event in Orlando FL. You rocked
the house!!! I’ve heard nothing but positive comments. I appreciated you
coming up to me after the show and shaking my hand and chatting with me. I
am the big guy who had you do the gag with John Arnold the former football
player with the Detroit Lions. Hey John really got a BIG kick out of that –
then nearly kicked my butt afterwards... and you really scored the points
with his company!!!
Since I am on Gatners Advisory Board, I will obviously recommend you again
and again... To date, you have been the best comedian they have ever had,
and I've been with them ten years...
Kind Regards,

the Best Western in Marlborough. It was a blast. I attended a comedy night
a couple of years ago and it was a dud! I may have laughed twice the whole
night. As a result, I haven't attended another comedy night until they
talked me into going on the 10th. I'm glad I did.
Good luck and hope to catch another performance in the future.

Paul,
Thank you for such an AWESOME show last night!! We are still laughing about
it. The ET comment put my husband and friends over the top!
I had been raving about you. My friends finally got to see you and thought
you were great as well. We go to every comedy show that Joe Rocco has in the
summer and fall; we have yet to miss a show.
He gets some really good comics but I have to say you were the best!
A sign of a great comic is when you have seen them 2 times, laugh just as
hard each time and can't wait to see them again!.
Last night's set was incredible and should be on a DVD. Any chance you will
have one in the future?
My friends and I all agree that you are as good if not better than any other
comic on TV and you should definitely have your own TV special.
I checked your schedule and will hopefully see you again soon.
Thanks again for a great night of laughs!!

Thank you for a happy day.

Hi Paul,
You're my family's favorite comedian.
We first caught an act you did at Giggles about 4-5 years ago. Now we try to
find you. With the help of your website we now can schedule our FUN nights
out.
We just saw the ***** ******* act on April 8th. I was not impressed... the
fact that after all these years of doing stand up he can command a large $$$
act but doesn't have any NEW material surprises me.
I've seen him 3 times over the past 5 years and the script doesn't really
change. YOU at least work on new and always hilarious concepts.
I've introduced my daughter and her boyfriend (18-20 year olds) to the fun
and thrills of seeing a comedy show - Thank you for bringing us laughter and
the ability to come out and enjoy ourselves as a family.
I'm probably one of your biggest fans.
I am very excited for your new project---- Murphy's Law. I would love to see
it make a TV sitcom. After Everyone Loves Raymond---WE NEED YOU!!!!
Good Luck, I'll be rooting for you.
Lots of Luv and Laughter,

Dear Mr. D'Angelo,
Last night my (sort of) husband (the electrical engineer) and I skidded and
slid our way through the blizzard into Portland to meet some friends at the
Comedy Connection and see your show.
Thank you for the best laugh we've had in years! Actually, for the double
laugh--because we "relived" some of your material on the drive home and kept
our eyes open for a jogger to run down.
Do you have a CD, DVD or video available with some of your latest standup?
Or should we simply purchase everything on your web-site (including the
t-shirt) on the assumption that it's just as funny as you
were last night? Also--any idea when you'll be returning to Portland
Thanks again!

Dear Paul,
it was a wonderful surprise seeing you back at Hermosa Beach Comedy and
Magic Club on Tuesday. Your new material was great, and you still had my
favorite classic, about the suck park, where everything sucks.
You came on stage and you were on fire. You have so much energy, it was nice
to see that you didn't lose your touch.
I have only seen you twice, the first time was over a year ago, I just
finished eating, when you came on stage. I laughed so hard, my stomach was
killing me. I wanted to excuse myself so I can take a breather, but a) I
didn't have the energy to get up. and b) I didn't want to miss anything you
had to say.
From then, you became my favorite performer, you’re so funny and you have so
much talent.
Please keep me informed when you back in the neighborhood.
I would travel far to see you.
Wishing the best
